John Ciccolella

John Ciccolella was an icon in the University Heights scene for over 20 years. Originally from Northern New Jersey, Ciccolella found the leisurely bliss that attracts so many to San Diego & made his presence felt on the music scene in a profound manner.

Organizing events at Twiggs Green Room & later the Across the Street venue he founded at Mueller massage school, Ciccolella provided stage opportunities for musicians, from beginners to world class superstars. His Open Mic provided a place for literally hundreds, if not thousands, of musicians to hone their craft.

Johnny Ciccolella was a virtuoso on several instruments including piano, violin, guitar & bass, serving as a mentor & a teacher to at least two generations of musicians in San Diego. An artist of many talents, he also collaborated with wedding-planner wife Dawn to prepare gorgeous flower arrangements. He passed away due to a brain aneurysm January 2018.

Johnny was a robust lover of life, the ocean, traveling, coffee, conversation & chess. His larger than life spirit & his infectious smile will remain with his loved ones eternally.
